Jaisalmer in a day

The city, properly, in a single day — the fort while the lanes are quiet, the havelis mid-morning, and the cenotaphs for the last of the light.

One day

  • Patwon Ki Haveli
  • Gadisar Lake
  • Vyas Chhatri at sunset
A camel caravan carrying riders up a sunlit dune in the Thar desert

Shorter options

Or just a shape for the day

Half a day, a full day, or the border run on its own — priced per trip rather than as a package.

Two days, sequenced

The order matters more than the list

Every site here has an hour when it is at its best and an hour when it is a disappointment. This is how we'd sequence two days in the winter season — and what your driver is quietly optimising for even when you don't ask.

Day one

The city, in the right order

  1. Gadisar Lake before the light hardens
  2. Jaisalmer Fort while the lanes are still quiet
  3. Jain temples inside the fort
  4. Patwon Ki Haveli, then lunch
  5. Kuldhara
  6. Bada Bagh for sunset

Day two

West, into the desert

  1. A slow morning — the fort rooftops are best now
  2. Leave for Sam Sand Dunes
  3. Camel safari
  4. Sunset from the high dune
  5. Folk evening, dinner, tent
  6. Sunrise on an empty dune

Places to see

Everything worth stopping for

Distances are from the city centre. The best time is not a formality — Bada Bagh at noon and Gadisar at midday are both a waste of a drive.

Tanot and Longewala sit close to the border. Carry a valid photo ID — it is checked more than once — and tell us in advance if anyone travelling is a foreign national, so we can sort out the paperwork where it applies.
